Russ, Laurinburg, NC Wingate University Scholarship FoundationThe North Carolina Society of Accountants established a tax exempt Scholarship Foundation as a vehicle to provide scholarships for deserving students who have indicated a desire to enter the profession of Accounting. Generally, the scholarship applicant is a High School senior, but he or she could be presently enrolled in the study of accounting at a College or University. To be eligible, the applicant must (1) be a resident of North Carolina, (2) enroll in an accredited school of higher education in North Carolina, (3) enroll with six or more credit hours (per semester) in an accounting degree program, and (4) must show a firm intention to continue in the field of accounting. The selection criteria are weighted in two major areas. One is academic achievement and the second is financial need. Beginning in the academic year 1999-2000 a second year scholarship program was established for first year scholarship winners who continued in an accounting degree program. As long as the student continued as an accounting major he or she would be awarded a scholarship for the full four-year term. Board of Trustees: Marsha Wheeler, Chairperson; Sarah P.
